Elements October 2025

In the October 2025 Newsletter:

  • You can sense within your entire body: a glimpse at the amazing world of fascia

  • Stability and mobility begin with the feet - try this movement

  • Connecting with nature to reduce stress and settle within

Something to consider:

What would it be like if we all lived from the perspective of our bodies and…

  • chose to move, rest, respond based on body signals and sensations

  • trusted the wisdom of the body

  • experienced ourselves and the world around us from a body and heart-centered knowing rather than a head and thought-focused mindset

Fascia is basically a network of connective tissue within us. It surrounds every muscle, tendon, bone, blood vessel, nerve, organ and covers our entire body under the skin. Fascia provides structural support; it allows us to move and to sense throughout our body. There are an estimated 250 million nerve endings (sensory neurons) in fascia; this is more than is found in the skin. Fascia is considered one of the most abundant sensory organs in the body. Fascia plays a key role in body awareness, detection of body sensations (i.e., thirst, heart rate), and self-awareness and emotional regulation.

Balance, mobility and stability begin from our connection with our feet on the ground. And, where you are standing and moving in your feet connects to where you are in your legs and pelvis.

Check out this video that I made for the participants in my current Foundation class. Our

focus in class was on connecting with the feet and the relationship between the feet and lower legs. I recommend that you walk mindfully first, then follow the movement in the video, and follow up with another mindful walk. Notice and sense any differences.

A Walk in the Woods: I feel so blessed to live in Maine. Nature and opportunities to be outside are abundant. But wherever you live, there are great benefits to spending time outside among trees, grass, plants, flowers, immersed in the sounds, sights and smells of nature. The research is clear on this; being in nature lowers stress and anxiety, improves mood and cognitive functioning, helps to strengthen the immune system and provide a sense of inner balance. So, take time to connect with nature whenever you can. It is so important for all of you…mind, body and spirit.
